I spend a lot of my time working. Sometimes I work on my own writing; often I write or edit work for money. I water the plants in the garden, and look after the kids. I do a lot of work and only some of it pays. I often wish I'd been born to a more humane country, where more forms of work are acknowledged, and my sense of worth didn't hinge on how much of it I get paid for, and how much I am paid. There's nothing I can do about it.
